X-Lab at Leeds Digital Festival

X-Lab at Leeds Digital Festival

Dominating the city for the last two weeks, Leeds Digital Festival has offered the public, companies and organisations unique insight into ground breaking technological debates. As the largest UK digital sector event outside of London, the fortnight of talks, workshops, events and networking has opened eyes and doors to the ways we can harness digital mediums to improve businesses and those they serve.

Last year the festival attracted 20,000 attendees across 68 venues and this year is set to welcome visitors from China, Hong Kong, the US and Estonia. Cultivating a community of local, national and international minds, the festival is pursuing how different organisations and digital providers can collaborate to use technology in healthcare provision through their ‘100% Digital Leeds’ theme. Already home to companies like ourselves and large organisations like NHS Digital, Leeds is home to a host of digital healthcare successes and the festival provides the space to build relationships and that success further.

Keren Pearson, a Software Developer at X-Lab, attended ‘Delivering Digital by Newday & NHS Digital’ and ‘Moving North: Tech Innovations .NET Core Event’ and said: ‘It was amazing to see how digital technology can be harnessed by NHS Ditgital to improve healthcare provision and efficiency. It was clear how X-Lab fits into the visions of policy makers for using tech in this way – especially with NPEx’s focus on interoperability. On the other hand, the ‘Moving North’ event gave me some insight into how we can be doing more at X-Lab to modernise our practice.’

Situated right at the centre of a growing digital health arena, it’s important for us at X-Lab to engage with our colleagues across Leeds. Our company and its reputation were founded on collaboration and we have always formed key relationships to provide excellent healthcare through digital technology. Furthermore, as many of our staff studied at the University of Leeds, one of Leeds Digital Festival’s sponsors, its crucial to engage with the digital sector that will attract talent and brilliant minds to stay in the city. Staying in touch with the newest developments in digital from the varying perspectives of software development, business growth and even in marketing, we can continue to provide amazing solutions for healthcare.

Penny Hindle, who is joining us as a Graduate Software Developers following nearly two years on the X-Lab team attended several events aimed at encouraging women in tech and their success. She said: ‘I can’t stress enough the value of attending events like these. From careers advice to tech talks I have learnt so many valuable lessons. The women in tech community in Leeds is so powerful and everyone looks out for each other!’

With X-Lab staff attending events in areas that varied from data protection, women in tech, and digital marketing to ways digital technology is being used to save NHS funds, Leeds Digital Festival has provided food for thought across the business.

Rose Crees, our PR and Communications Officer, attended ‘What the Hell is “Brand Digitisation”?’ hosted by Tall, the marketing firm behind Leeds Digital Festival. She said: ‘While my role at X-Lab is more creative, it was interesting to learn more about how I can be using digital methods to enhance X-Lab’s presence. If we want to grow as a company, it’s important for us to utilise the digital platforms available to us and develop our brand identity by combining my creative skills with the industry we work in.’

We look forward to next years festival so look out for what X-Lab could bring up for debate.
