X-Lab Adventure to Sweden
On the 18th October 2015, Patrick Davy – Software Developer and Hayley Milsom – Business Analyst
took to the air and flew over to Stockholm, Sweden to design, document and develop a new system
for the Werlabs service.
Werlabs provides an online Web Shop where customers can purchase health checks and receive medical test results and analysis online within 24hours of a sample being taken, in their nearest phlebotomy clinic.
Werlabs mission is “to give people the best possible knowledge of how they can improve their health, both in short and long term” providing “ a healthier society in which individuals have the knowledge and motivation to take responsibility for their health” .
But what was missing?
Patrick and Hayley spent a week working in the Werlabs office with Will Stoddart, CEO, and Thomas Fly, IT Manager. Over the five days, Patrick developed a user interface that will now enable all phlebotomy clinics across Sweden to take blood samples for orders purchased through the Werlabs Web Shop, as previously not all clinics had a system available to facilitate this.
Having both companies in the same office to work with each other and understand fully what was needed was a big part of the trip.
Will quoted: “We greatly enjoyed working with Hayley and Patrick during their week in Stockholm. Patrick, Hayley and the wider X-Lab team, were invaluable in helping us to develop a technical solution to a European wide problem. We now stand a real chance of improving the provision of blood testing services to the general public in multiple countries, potentially affecting the lives of millions of people.” The visit to Stockholm was not only a great opportunity for the X-Lab staff to visit another country but was the start of building a great relationship working with Werlabs.
Patrick quoted: “Myself and Hayley had a very successful visit over to Stockholm. Both Will and Thomas were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable. It was a great piece of work to be involved with and I am looking forward to working with Werlabs in future.”
